MEMBERS
Initially membership of the society was open to tradesmen employed in a wide range of trades including ironmongers, saddlers, engravers, shoemakers and watchmakers. The society now has 4,800 members recorded and has admitted almost 1,000 members in the last 50 years.
As the purpose of the society extended to charitable works the membership was opened up to other trades and professions in the Paisley area.
Current membership is by invitation or recommendation by any member. New members are inducted each year at the Annual Election Dinner.
New members, after signing the minute book are elected to the society during the dinner. They are given a certificate signed by the Deacon, Collector and Clerk. The example here is of the certificate of Hugh Colligan Donald who was elected to membership in 1898.
